How to back up your own TikTok and Instagram videos before deleting your account

Updated October 9, 2026

You spent hours creating your videos. Yet an account can be hacked, suspended by mistake or simply deleted when you move on. Keeping a copy of your own creations is a simple precaution that can save you from losing everything.

Method 1: the official data export

TikTok, Instagram and Facebook all offer a tool to download a copy of your information, including your posts. It's the most complete way to back up your whole account at once.

Menus change regularly: if you can't find the option, type “download” in the settings search.

Method 2: saving from the app

For a specific video, most apps let you save your own video to your phone from the “Share” or “…” menu. Depending on the platform and settings, the video may include a watermark.

Method 3: with Klipoo, for a public video

If your video is public, you can also paste its link into Klipoo to get the MP4 file, the audio as MP3 or the thumbnail. It's handy for quickly backing up one or two videos from any device, without installing an app.

Important: use this method for your own videos or videos whose creator gave you permission. Other creators' videos belong to them.

Organize your backups

Before deleting an account

Deletion is often permanent after a grace period. Before starting it, check that your official export is complete and that your files open correctly. Also let your community know and tell them where to find you.
